Saving on Carnival, Royal Caribbean & Disney
Same habits, different rules on each line.
Get a Free Cruise QuoteThe habits on this site work on any ship, but each big line has its own rules and tools. These notes are general and current as we write; always check the line’s own pages before you sail.
How to Save Money on a Carnival Cruise
- Use the no-extra-charge food. Many Carnival ships have casual counters, such as burger and taco spots, at no extra charge, alongside the main dining room and buffet.
- Carry on your wine. Carnival’s beverage policy lets each guest aged 21 and over bring one bottle of wine or champagne in carry-on luggage at embarkation. Beer and spirits are not allowed, and a corkage fee applies if you open it in a bar or restaurant.
- Bring a few soft drinks. The same policy allows a small number of sealed non-alcoholic drinks in cans or cartons.
- Book in the app. The Carnival app shows your account and lets you pre-book many extras; check it each evening.
- Join the loyalty program. Carnival Rewards replaced the old VIFP Club in 2026; members get offers that can cut the cost of the next sailing.
Pre-Cruise Savings on Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean sells most extras before you sail in its Cruise Planner, linked to your reservation: drink packages, internet, specialty dining, shore excursions and more. Prices there move, and the line runs regular pre-cruise sales.
- Look early and often. Check the planner soon after booking and again during sales.
- Read the cancellation terms. Many planner purchases can be cancelled before sailing; if a price falls, cancelling and re-buying may save money. Confirm the terms on each item first.
- Compare bundles. Some fares include drinks or Wi-Fi; compare them with the planner price.
- Wine at embarkation. Royal Caribbean also allows a limited amount of wine to be carried on at embarkation; check the current allowance.

How to Save Money on a Disney Cruise
Disney Cruise Line fares are often higher than other mainstream lines, but more is included, and that changes where the savings are:
- Soft drinks are included. Fountain sodas at beverage stations come with the fare, so a soda package is not needed.
- Character time and shows are included. You do not need to pay extra for the main entertainment and youth clubs.
- Wine or beer from home. Adults 21 and over may carry on a limited amount of wine or beer at embarkation; check Disney’s current limits.
- Beach days. On days at Disney’s own island destinations, packing your own snorkel gear saves rental fees.
- Port Adventures. Compare Disney’s tours with reputable local options, just as on any line.
Cruise Line Saving Questions
Do line rules on bringing wine change?
Yes, from time to time. Read the beverage policy on the line’s own site in the weeks before you sail, and keep any bottle in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
Should I buy add-ons through the cruise line or my advisor?
Pre-cruise add-ons are usually bought in the line’s own planner or app, linked to your booking. Your advisor can tell you which ones are worth it and remind you when sales run.
Other lines — Norwegian, MSC, Princess, Celebrity, Virgin Voyages — have their own planners, bundles and policies. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise can walk you through the one you are sailing.
